Toys "R" Us, a U.S.-based toy retailer, has launched its first store in Türkiye at Terminal Kadikoy in Istanbul, entering the Turkish market through a joint venture with local retailer Agnaris.
According to the company's statement, the Toys "R" Us Terminal Kadikoy store has been designed as an interactive space encouraging children to explore, learn through play, and express themselves freely. The store features hands-on play areas, creativity-focused workshops, themed event corners, and character meet-and-greets.
Inside the store, Geoffrey’s Cafe operates as a multi-purpose space offering birthday parties, cookie and pizza decorating workshops, and seasonal events, while also serving as a regular gathering point for families.
The opening day festivities featured live music, dance shows, face painting, creative workshops like painting and modeling clay, and appearances by the brand’s giraffe mascot Geoffrey.
Selcen Armagan, Co-Founder of Agnaris Magazacilik, said the company’s top priority in bringing Toys "R" Us to Türkiye was to preserve the brand’s global play culture and customer experience. "Terminal Kadikoy is the first reflection of this vision in Türkiye," she said, adding that the concept is designed to support exploration, family interaction, and the full experience the brand promises.
Ozgur Ozaktac, the company’s other co-founder, emphasized the brand’s strong global presence. "Toys ‘R’ Us is a powerful player with global recognition and annual sales exceeding $2 billion," he said. "We offer a wide product range that includes many global brands, and we will continue to expand our selection with new items," he added.
Looking ahead, Agnaris executives said the company aims to make Toys "R" Us Türkiye the country’s most engaging, experience-led toy retailer with strong ties to younger generations. The long-term strategy includes expanding the product line, creating community-oriented spaces, and preserving the international brand identity while aligning with local consumer preferences.
Inaugurated in early 2025, Terminal Kadikoy is a cultural and commercial venue located in Istanbul’s Kadikoy district on the Asian side of the city. Designed as a multi-purpose space, it serves as a hub for community events, shopping, and dining, and regularly hosts brand launches, pop-up exhibitions, and interactive experiences.
Founded in 1948, Toys "R" Us became known for its large-format stores and wide product selection. Although the company filed for bankruptcy in 2017, it has since undergone restructuring and now operates under various ownership models across different markets.
