Tupras, Türkiye's largest oil refiner, is investing more than $370 million in four new Suezmax crude oil tankers to expand its maritime transportation capacity, with the vessels scheduled for delivery by the end of 2029.
According to a company statement released on Friday, the four vessels, each with a carrying capacity of about 157,000 deadweight tons (DWT), are being built in South Korea.
The investment forms part of Tupras' broader "Energy for the Future" transformation strategy, under which the company is investing across its refining, logistics and low-carbon businesses to strengthen energy security while preparing for a lower-emissions future.
The strategy includes projects to produce higher-value petrochemicals, develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), expand renewable electricity generation and advance green hydrogen technologies.
The new vessels will join the fleet operated by Ditas, Tupras' maritime transportation and logistics subsidiary, which manages the company's crude oil and petroleum product shipping operations in Türkiye and abroad while also providing terminal, agency and tanker chartering services.
Ditas currently operates a fleet comprising five crude oil tankers with a combined capacity of 520,066 DWT, four asphalt tankers totaling 61,323 DWT and eight product tankers with a combined capacity of 130,502 DWT.
The company also operates tugboats, mooring boats, agency vessels and a waste-collection ship supporting Tupras' refinery terminals in Izmit and Aliaga.
Its fleet is also set to expand this year with the addition of the T. Florya chemical tanker, a 12,000-DWT vessel designed with infrastructure ready for methanol fuel systems and expected to join the fleet in the third quarter.
The company operates four refineries in Izmit, Izmir, Kirikkale and Batman with a combined annual crude oil processing capacity of 30 million tons, making it Europe's seventh-largest refining company and one of the Mediterranean basin's most complex refiners.
During the first quarter of 2026, Tupras reported ₺258.3 billion ($5.4 billion) in revenue, up 24.4% from the same period a year earlier. The company processed 7.1 million tons of crude oil and semi-finished feedstock, while total sales, including exports, increased 15% to 7.4 million tons.
