Turkish Airlines on Friday announced that it has signed a codeshare agreement with South African Airways, the flag carrier of South Africa, to launch joint flights beginning March 1, 2026.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Geneva by Ahmet Bolat, chairman of Turkish Airlines, and John Lamola, CEO of South African Airways, according to a statement from the Turkish carrier.
Bolat said the partnership would offer more comprehensive travel options for passengers of both airlines and expressed confidence that the cooperation would extend beyond commercial benefits.
“As the flag carriers of our respective countries, we are offering our passengers the opportunity to benefit from more comprehensive travel options,” Bolat said. “I believe this cooperation will also bring significant gains to our deep-rooted cultural and tourism relations.”
Lamola described the agreement as a strategic step to expand reliable and competitive air travel.
“Turkish Airlines is a well-regarded global carrier,” Lamola said. “This partnership highlights our shared commitment to improving connectivity between Africa and Türkiye, while supporting tourism, trade and sustainable economic growth.”
The codeshare agreement is aimed at strengthening commercial cooperation and increasing travel alternatives for passengers.
Under the agreement, South African Airways will codeshare on flights to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Harare, Victoria Falls and Mauritius.
Turkish Airlines, in turn, will codeshare on routes connecting Istanbul to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Frankfurt, Paris and London.
