Türkiye’s national airline, Turkish Airlines, will begin direct flights between Istanbul and Yerevan on March 11, 2026, introducing a new phase in the ongoing normalization process between Türkiye and Armenia.
The flights will operate between Istanbul Airport and Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, establishing a direct connection between the two cities’ main international hubs.
According to information shared by the airline, it will run daily round-trip flights on the route, with frequencies increasing gradually over the following months.
From May 14, 2026, Turkish Airlines will increase weekly flights from seven to 10. A further rise is scheduled for June 15, when the route will be served 14 times per week to accommodate summer travel demand.
Türkiye and Armenia do not maintain formal diplomatic relations, and their shared land border has remained closed since 1993 following the Karabakh War.
After Azerbaijan’s victory in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Türkiye and Armenia appointed special representatives to lead a structured normalization dialogue.
These discussions have focused on practical issues such as border arrangements, trade routes, and transportation links.
The process regained momentum after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Türkiye in June and the signing of a peace roadmap between Azerbaijan and Armenia, advancing efforts toward reopening the Alican border gate and resuming trade between the two countries.
