ENKA Insaat, one of Türkiye’s largest construction and engineering firms, announced on Monday that it has secured a major contract in Iraq to expand the capacity of an existing power facility in the country’s north.
The new agreement signals the company’s continued interest in regional infrastructure development, particularly in energy-related projects.
The company announced the deal through Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), revealing that the contract was signed with Iraq-based Taurus Arm for Power Generation, Oil Transportation and Services Ltd. The project will involve converting a 500 megawatt (MW) simple-cycle power plant located in the city of Sulaymaniyah into a 750 MW combined-cycle plant.
Simple-cycle power plants typically operate with gas turbines alone, while combined-cycle plants integrate both gas and steam turbines. This shift not only increases electricity generation capacity but also enhances overall efficiency.
According to ENKA's statement, the value of the contract stands at approximately $289 million. The upgraded power station is scheduled to become operational by June 30, 2028.
The Sulaymaniyah plant is strategically located in Iraq’s KRG, an area that has seen substantial investment in recent years to strengthen its power grid and industrial capabilities.
