Turkish firms are increasingly adopting DevSecOps practices to strengthen cybersecurity within software development, reflecting a broader industry shift accelerated by advances in artificial intelligence, according to Türkiye's IT Association.

Speaking at the DevSecOps Days Istanbul Conference, held this week at Borsa Istanbul, IT Association Chairman Mehmet Ali Serttas said the integration of cybersecurity into the software lifecycle is becoming a cultural transformation rather than a procedural adjustment.

DevSecOps—short for Development Security Operations—emphasizes embedding security throughout software development from design to deployment.

DevSecOps is a methodology that embeds security measures into every phase of software development — from initial design and integration to testing and deployment.

By automating these processes, development teams can produce safer and more efficient code at reduced cost. The core advantages of DevSecOps are speed and security, making it an increasingly essential practice for modern software engineering.

AI adoption fuels transformation

"We had a discussion at the DevSecOps event about the adaptation process of this culture in companies and the establishment of the culture," Serttas stated. He added that Turkish companies are already equipped to embrace this shift and have begun integrating it into their workflows to swiftly address software vulnerabilities.

Serttas also noted that artificial intelligence is significantly accelerating the transition toward DevSecOps. He compared the rapid development of AI technologies to “a flood that comes very quickly,” prompting companies to adapt at a fast pace.

"I think DevSecOps can be adapted to companies faster with AI systems, as they also see the opportunities that will enable them to detect anomalies in the fastest way with the integration of the AI," he said.

Despite some ongoing uncertainty surrounding AI’s direction, Serttas emphasized its growing influence and widespread use in professional and everyday settings.

According to Serttas, AI tools are already assisting software developers and managers, and their use in secure software development, including coding, testing, and deployment, will continue to expand. He referred to AI as a technology with a global market nearing $1.7 trillion, suggesting that the scale of investment and innovation will further accelerate adoption.

High-level participation at Istanbul event

The third DevSecOps Days Istanbul Conference, organized by Türkiye’s IT Association, focused on the theme "AI for DevSecOps" and drew strong participation from public institutions, private firms, academia, and cybersecurity professionals.

Serttas highlighted the event’s success, stating that attendance exceeded expectations and included contributions from respected scholars and sector representatives.

The two-day event featured panel discussions, workshops, and expert sessions covering AI integration, cybersecurity challenges, and the future of secure software development.
