Turkish restaurant operator TAB Gida has opened the first two restaurants in China for its kebab chain, Usta Donerci, under a franchise agreement as part of its international expansion plans, the company disclosed on Friday.
The company said the initial restaurants will operate as a pilot project to assess the commercial and operational performance of the Usta Donerci concept in China before deciding on further expansion.
Following the disclosure, TAB Gida's shares on Borsa Istanbul rose more than 3% during Friday's session.
Founded by TAB Gida in 2013, Usta Donerci is the company's first proprietary restaurant brand, created to bring traditional Turkish doner to the quick-service restaurant segment. Its menu includes doner wraps, Iskender doner and other Turkish specialties served in a fast-service format.
The brand operates more than 160 restaurants across Türkiye and has expanded alongside TAB Gida's broader restaurant network over the past decade.
Usta Donerci is part of TAB Gida's strategy to grow its portfolio of proprietary Turkish restaurant brands alongside its international franchise business. The company expanded that portfolio with the launch of Usta Pideci in 2019, according to its website.
TAB Gida, established in 1994, is one of Türkiye's largest quick-service restaurant operators. Alongside its proprietary brands, it holds the Turkish master franchise rights for Burger King, Popeyes, Sbarro, Arby's and Subway.
The company continued expanding its restaurant network in 2026, opening 40 new outlets in the second quarter and 78 since the start of the year.
As of June 30, it operated 2,100 restaurants, comprising 1,181 company-owned and 919 franchised locations, up from 2,030 at the end of 2025.
In 2025, TAB Gida generated ₺47.6 billion ($1.2 billion) in revenue, while systemwide sales reached ₺62.5 billion. Beyond Türkiye, TAB Gida has wholly owned subsidiaries in Georgia and North Macedonia.
