Libya has signed an agreement with Türkiye-based logistics company, Al Bawabah, to modernize its civil aviation system as part of infrastructure reforms.
Under the agreement, air traffic communication systems and navigation infrastructure will be modernized at many airports.
The contracts signed by Fund General Manager Engineer Bilkassem Halife Hafter aim to improve service quality in the field of civil aviation in Libya and build infrastructure that complies with international standards. Through modernization efforts, the goal is to improve flight safety and strengthen Libya's integration into global air transportation systems.
Al Bawabah Services Limited Company, which is part of the Turkish side of the agreement, is a multinational company established in Istanbul in 2017. The company collaborates with manufacturing companies across Türkiye and handles the entire process from product procurement to customs procedures on behalf of importers and institutions.
In recent years, Al Bawabah has expanded its activities in the fields of infrastructure, logistics, and technical services in the Middle East and North Africa.
Turkish companies are increasingly involved in large-scale construction and infrastructure projects across Libya, particularly in the eastern regions such as Benghazi. In April, Libya's Development and Reconstruction Fund announced that it had signed several contracts with two Turkish construction firms—Libco Insaat and Cevahir Yapi—for the implementation of new development projects.
The scope of the projects includes the construction of public hospitals, improvements to health care infrastructure, and the development and maintenance of roads in cities such as Benghazi, Al Bayda, Shahat, and Tobruk. The initiatives aim to boost public service delivery and enhance regional infrastructure in line with Libya’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts.
During an official visit to Libya in May, Türkiye’s Trade Minister Omar Bolat noted that Turkish contractors are expected to play a larger role in the country’s upcoming development initiatives. He said that Turkish firms had received verbal assurances of support from Libyan authorities and that the ministry had offered strong endorsements to facilitate their participation in future tenders.
