Ahmet Nazif Zorlu, chairman of the board of Zorlu Holding and one of the most prominent figures in Türkiye’s business world and textile industry, has died, prompting condolence messages from across the sector.

The news of his death caused deep sadness in business and industrial circles, and tributes began to appear soon after it became public. The source material does not give the cause or date of death, and it does not mention funeral arrangements.

Sector pays tribute

Ahmet Sisman, chairman of the board of the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (ITHIB), was among those who issued a message of condolence. Sisman described Zorlu as one of the sector’s most respected names and said he learned of the death “with deep sorrow.”

He wished mercy for Zorlu and patience for his family and loved ones. “Condolences to our sector,” he added.

Zorlu was born in 1944 in Babadag, a district of the western province of Denizli. He began his working life in his family’s textile business and took an interest in trade from a young age.

He opened his first textile store in Trabzon, on the Black Sea coast. In 1970, he moved the company’s headquarters to Istanbul. Together with his brother Zeki Zorlu, he laid the foundations of what would become Zorlu Holding.

Building a conglomerate

In 1976, Zorlu founded Korteks, expanding his investments into manufacturing. In 1990, he brought his companies together under the Zorlu Holding umbrella. Four years later, in 1994, he added Vestel to the group, which extended its reach into the consumer electronics and home appliance sectors.

Under his leadership, Zorlu Group grew to operate in textiles, electronics, home appliances, energy, real estate, metallurgy and the defense industry, among other fields. Vestel and Korteks are among its best-known companies and brands. The group operates in international markets as well as in Türkiye.
