Tiryaki Agro, one of Türkiye’s leading agribusiness firms, is set to build a major wheat and pea processing facility in Kazakhstan, partnering with Qatar’s Hassad Food in a $320 million investment.

According to a statement from Kazakhstan’s national investment company, the agreement was signed by Gabidulla Ospankulov, Chairman of the Foreign Ministry’s Investment Committee, along with executives from the involved Turkish and Kazakh companies. The plant will be constructed in the Baykonur district of the capital, Astana, and will represent Kazakhstan’s first integrated facility focused on the full-cycle deep processing of grains and legumes.

Kazakhstan aims to become a regional agri-processing powerhouse

The upcoming complex is designed to process 250,000 tons of wheat and 80,000 tons of peas annually. It is expected to employ more than 500 people during its construction and operational phases. Once operational, the facility will cater to both domestic demand and international markets, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the European Union, Türkiye, North America, and Southeast Asia.

Highlighting the project's strategic importance, Investment Committee Chair Ospankulov described it as a model of modern agricultural development in Kazakhstan, especially in terms of technological integration and export orientation.

Turkish firm Alarko breaks ground on Central Asia’s largest agribusiness project

Tiryaki Agro currently exports agricultural goods to 70 countries and records over $2.5 billion in annual revenue, selling roughly 4 million tons per year. Its Qatari partner, Hassad Food, operates as the food and agriculture subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), which manages assets worth $526 billion. Hassad is active in global projects, including ventures in Australia, Canada, Türkiye, and Oman.

This latest investment follows a similar initiative by Türkiye’s Alarko Holding, which established Too Alsera KZ in Kazakhstan’s Shymkent region in 2023 to enter the agriculture and greenhouse cultivation sectors. The groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of its greenhouse complex took place in August 2024. With a planned investment of $650 million, Alarko’s project stands as the largest agricultural investment in Central Asia by a Turkish company.
