Türkiye’s oil and natural gas production surged in 2025 as the country intensified efforts to reduce dependence on energy imports, with oil output rising by 26% to 47.9 million barrels and natural gas production increasing by 39% to 3.2 billion cubic meters.

According to the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry's statement, Türkiye set new production records in 2025, with daily crude oil output reaching an all-time high of 135,671 barrels and daily natural gas production peaking at 10.2 million cubic meters.

The ministry stated that these gains were driven by increased activity at key sites including the Gabar oil field and Black Sea gas field, along with additional discoveries that have begun contributing to national output.

The figures help ease Türkiye’s annual energy import bill, which ranges between $60 billion and $70 billion, the statement said, as part of the country’s broader strategy to strengthen energy independence through domestic resources.

According to the latest available data from October 2025, Türkiye's annual energy imports stood at $64.13 billion, with a total of $51.59 billion recorded over the first ten months of the year, central bank Balance of Payments figures show. In volume terms, Türkiye imported a total of 45.26 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 41.99 million tons of oil and petroleum products, according to data from the Energy Markets Regulatory Authority.

Türkiye targets doubling Black Sea gas in 2026

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Türkiye currently imports approximately two-thirds of its energy needs, emphasizing the strategic importance of domestic production in reducing this dependency.

"We made a significant move in domestic oil and natural gas production in 2025," Bayraktar said, adding that exploration and drilling activities will intensify in the Black Sea and in Diyarbakır, which is estimated to hold a shale oil reserve potential of 6.1 billion barrels.

"We will double our natural gas production in the Black Sea. The horizontal drilling method we will implement in Diyarbakır will have a game-changing effect on Turkish oil production," he said.
