Türkiye earns $31.6B from tourism in 2023

In 2023, tourism's direct gross value added in Türkiye reached ?1.117 trillion ($31.60 billion)—accounting for 4.7% of the country's total gross value added.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) released the Tourism Satellite Account 2023 report on Tuesday, reporting that the total consumption value for tourism surged to ?2.374 trillion, accounting for 3.7% of the country's total domestic supply.

Tourism services drive economic gains

The report highlighted that a vast majority of tourism-related services operated at high capacity for the sector.

Specifically, 98.8% of accommodation services, 59.3% of passenger transportation services, and 45.4% of cultural services were dedicated to tourism purposes, underscoring the sector's central role in various industries.

Employment within tourism-related sectors also demonstrated remarkable growth.

In 2023, tourism direct employment increased by 4.6% compared to 2023, reaching 998,000 people, which constituted 3.2% of Türkiye's total employment.
