Roblox, the global online gaming platform widely used by children and teenagers, has become accessible again in Türkiye after a 680-day access ban, according to Webtekno and multiple tech-focused outlets.
The platform had been blocked in Türkiye around two years ago following court decisions linked to child safety and content moderation concerns.
With the latest decision, users in the country can now access Roblox without using a VPN, a virtual private network often used to reach blocked online services.
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu had hinted that the ban on Roblox may be lifted soon in a recent statement. However, he had stressed that access would only be restored via a court ruling once the platform fully complied with the law, stating: "We consider it above everything else that all digital platforms operating in our country act in accordance with Türkiye's values and law."
Roblox was officially banned in Türkiye on Aug. 7, 2024, following a court decision stating that the platform lacked adequate moderation, leaving children vulnerable to online grooming, pedophilia, and predatory behavior.
According to the report, Roblox's return came after the platform introduced new age restrictions and safety systems. These changes played a key role in bringing the 680-day blockade to an end.
The company also strengthened parental-control panels and rolled out age-verification systems as part of its stated commitment to comply fully with local regulations.
The earlier access ban had been based on concerns over children's digital safety, limited content supervision and allegations that some material on the platform could negatively affect child development.
Following the decision, Roblox management contacted Turkish authorities, stating it had begun implementing the necessary changes to align the platform with local legal requirements.
The lifting of the ban followed concrete steps by Roblox to address Turkish regulatory concerns. The platform strengthened child safety measures, implemented stricter age verification, intensified content moderation, and upgraded its parental control tools.
The return of the platform also sparked massive engagement on social media, where young users celebrated regaining access to their accounts and the digital worlds they had been locked out of during the ban.
