Türkiye has introduced a visa exemption for Australian citizens traveling for tourism or transit, allowing stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, according to a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette.
The decision, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, sets out that holders of ordinary passports from Australia will no longer need a visa when visiting Türkiye for tourism or passing through the country. The exemption applies to short stays, with travelers allowed to remain in the country for up to 90 days within any 180-day timeframe.
In practical terms, this means visitors can enter and stay in Türkiye multiple times, as long as the total duration of their stays does not exceed 90 days over a rolling six-month period.
The measure was introduced through a presidential decision published in the Official Gazette and took effect as of the date of publication. Authorities indicated that the move was carried out under Article 18 of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, which governs entry and stay conditions for foreign nationals.
By putting the decision into force immediately, Türkiye has formally waived visa requirements for Australian ordinary passport holders under the specified conditions.
