The Turkish Ministry of Trade has taken action to ensure that products purchased from foreign e-commerce platforms do not pose a threat to consumer health and safety.

In recent days, lab tests conducted in the European Union, South Korea, and Scandinavian countries have revealed serious safety risks in some products sold online.

Many items in categories such as clothing, footwear, leather goods, and children's products were found to contain high levels of toxic and carcinogenic substances.

These findings have caused concern among consumers in Türkiye, especially as such products can enter the domestic market with limited oversight.

In response, the ministry has launched coordinated inspections in cooperation with other relevant institutions responsible for product safety.

Initial efforts will focus on high-risk categories such as toys, baby products, shoes, textiles, and leather goods. Similar to EU practices, technical documentation and safety certificates will be required for imported goods when necessary.

The primary goal is to ensure that all products offered in Türkiye meet safety standards, pose no health risks, and comply with technical regulations.
