Türkiye reached a new peak in land trade activity on Dec. 7, registering the highest single-day commercial truck processing volume at the Kapikule Border Gate, which connects the country to Bulgaria and the European Union.

According to the Trade Ministry, a total of 3,442 commercial vehicles were processed that day—1,753 entering Türkiye and 1,689 exiting.

Major EU-facing border post sees rapid gains

Kapikule, located in northwestern Türkiye, is one of the country’s most critical land border crossings for exports and imports to and from the European Union.

The trade ministry described the new record as a clear result of sustained efforts to improve customs and logistics infrastructure.

The ministry stated that the volume increase reflects both rising trade demand and the enhanced capacity of customs operations, particularly through ongoing digitalization and modernization initiatives.

Officials noted that the record high serves as an indicator of faster, safer, and more reliable logistics processes. They pointed to recent investments in staffing, operational efficiency, and digital systems as key drivers of the improved processing speed at Kapikule.

Faster, more secure border logistics

The ministry highlighted that maintaining uninterrupted and efficient trade flows is essential for supporting Türkiye’s exporters and preserving the competitiveness of its international trade.

Türkiye’s government reiterated its commitment to further expanding these capabilities.

Officials said that infrastructure upgrades, procedural streamlining and service optimization at border gates will remain a priority as part of a broader trade facilitation agenda.

The statement emphasized that such reforms are designed to meet the needs of businesses engaged in international commerce and contribute to Türkiye’s long-term economic targets.
