Türkiye’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry spent ₺41.5 billion ($870 million) from its 2026 investment budget on transport projects during the first six months of the year, up from ₺34.38 billion in the same period of 2025.
The ministry had set aside ₺150 billion in its 2026 budget for investment projects, according to its 2026 Institutional Financial Status and Expectations Report.
Railway projects accounted for the biggest portion of investment spending. The ministry had allocated ₺114 billion to the sector for the full year and spent ₺26.8 billion of that amount in the first six months.
Urban transport ranked second. Projects aimed at improving urban and intercity transportation had received a ₺25 billion annual allocation, of which ₺11.5 billion was spent between January and June.
Maritime transport also recorded more than ₺1 billion in first-half investment spending. Of the ₺4.5 billion allocated to the sector for the year, ₺1.1 billion was used during the period.
Communications projects recorded the highest spending rate among the sectors during the first half. The ministry used ₺273.45 million, equivalent to 72.7% of the sector’s ₺376 million annual allocation.
Air transport projects accounted for ₺569.7 million in spending during the first half.
The ministry also allocated ₺248 million to agriculture, ₺81.4 million to tourism, ₺120 million to highways, and ₺838.7 million to other administrations.
