Türkiye's natural gas imports surged 22.8% to 3.54 billion cubic meters (bcm) in May, while crude oil imports fell by 13.2% to 2.48 million metric tons (18.18 million barrels), according to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
Natural gas deliveries consisted of 3.16 bcm transported via pipelines and 377 million cubic meters supplied as liquefied natural gas (LNG). Crude oil and petroleum product imports totaled 3.97 million metric tons, with diesel-type fuels accounting for 1.16 million tons.
Among pipeline sources, Russia delivered 1.19 bcm of natural gas to Türkiye in May, followed by Azerbaijan with 1.06 bcm, Iran with 791 million cubic meters, and Turkmenistan with 120 million cubic meters. LNG imports included 281 million cubic meters from Algeria and 96 million from the United States.
Total natural gas consumption in Türkiye increased by 28% year-over-year to 4.09 bcm. Residential consumption rose to 1.49 bcm, reflecting a 75.7% increase compared to May 2024. Industrial consumption reached 1.14 bcm, up 4.2% from the previous year. Power plants consumed 737 million cubic meters, an increase of 16.4%.
Natural gas storage volumes declined 20.2% year-over-year to 2.94 bcm at the end of May. Of this, 2.7 bcm was stored in underground storage facilities and 238 million cubic meters in LNG terminals.
Crude oil imports totaled 2.48 million metric tons in May. Total petroleum product imports, including refined fuels, decreased by 10.4% year-over-year to 3.97 million metric tons. Imports of diesel-type fuels fell by 3.5% to 1.16 million metric tons.
Türkiye’s total refinery production rose by 1.9% year-over-year to 3.36 million metric tons in May. Diesel output reached 1.42 million metric tons, up 8.9%. Gasoline production increased by 11.4% to 611,120 metric tons.
Aviation fuel output also rose to 611,120 metric tons, reflecting an increase of 37.2%. Marine fuel production decreased by 54.2% to 77,702 metric tons.
Domestic sales of petroleum products reached 2.93 million metric tons in May, reflecting a 7.2% year-over-year increase. Gasoline sales rose 22.3% to 468,411 metric tons, while diesel sales increased 5.6% to 2.33 million metric tons.
Petroleum product exports fell by 17.6% year-over-year to 1.28 million metric tons during the same period.
