Egypt ranked first in both loading and unloading operations at Turkish ports in October, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said, noting that “181,534 TEU containers were handled in connection with Egypt within just one month.”
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Uraloglu attended the opening ceremony of the TransMEA 2025 Middle East and Africa Smart Transport, Logistics and Infrastructure Exhibition and Forum held in Egypt. The ceremony was also attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
Uraloglu toured the exhibition area, visiting the stands of Turkish companies in particular, and exchanged information with participants.
The minister also visited the Turkish Embassy in Cairo, where he met with Turkish Ambassador Salih Mutlu Sen and signed the embassy’s guest book.
During the visit, Sen briefed him on the embassy’s ongoing activities and initiatives in Egypt.
In the statement, Uraloglu noted that the volume of containers handled at Turkish ports reached 11.69 million 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) in the January–October period of this year, marking a 3.5% increase compared with the same period last year.
He added that in October alone, container throughput rose 3.3% year-over-year, reaching 1,193,441 TEU.
Uraloglu stated that Egypt was the country with the highest number of containers arriving in Turkiye by sea in October, saying, “In October, Egypt ranked first with 88,476 TEU of containers arriving at our ports by sea.”
“Thus, in October, Egypt ranked first in container handling at Turkish ports in both loading and unloading operations,” he said.
He also said that more than 15 percent of all containers processed at the ports were linked to Egypt-related shipping.
He noted that shipments from Greek ports followed with 48,419 TEU, while those from Chinese ports totaled 36,335 TEU.
He added that Egypt also ranked first in container exports from Turkish ports by sea, with 93,058 TEU recorded in October, highlighting the strengthening maritime trade between Türkiye and Egypt.
Uraloglu is scheduled to take part in a high-level panel on Thursday alongside transport ministers from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Greece, and South Africa.
He will deliver remarks during the session titled “Connecting the Middle East and Africa in Industry, Transport, and Logistics Practice.”
At the region’s leading transport forum, Uraloglu will share Türkiye’s infrastructure experience and outline its regional connectivity vision, highlighting major projects such as the Development Road.
