Türkiye's fourth drilling ship Abdulhamid Han will begin operations at the Turkali-33 well in the Black Sea, according to information obtained by the state-owned Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent.
The Abdulhamid Han Drilling Ship has conducted a total of nine drilling operations in the Mediterranean and Black Sea since beginning service in August 2022.
The vessel's first mission was at the Yorukler-1 well in the Mediterranean. It later began work at the Goktepe-3 Well in the Black Sea in August 2024, completing operations on May 19, 2025.
The 75 billion cubic meter gas discovery announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May was made by the advanced technology drilling ship Abdulhamid Han at approximately 3,500 meters depth in the aforementioned well.
The Goktepe-3 well, where the discovery was made, is located in the Goktepe Field, 69 kilometers west of the Sakarya Gas Field and 165 kilometers offshore.
Having conducted a total of 9 drilling activities in the Mediterranean and Black Sea since entering service, Abdulhamid Han will soon begin its new mission at the Turkali-33 well in the Sakarya Gas Field.
Türkiye's determined national and international energy policy continues to increase its strategic influence in the Black Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and East Africa.
In this context, cooperation for oil and gas exploration on land and at sea is planned in nearby geographies including Somalia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Iraq and Libya.
Currently possessing four drilling and two seismic research vessels and one floating gas production platform, Türkiye aims to advance its offshore oil and natural gas exploration and drilling activities to an advanced level with 2 new deep-sea drilling ships added to its energy fleet.
