Türkiye's agriculture, food and beverage sector exported $27.79 billion worth of goods in 2025, representing a modest 0.35 percent increase from the previous year, according to data released by the Turkish Food and Beverage Industry Association.

The sector generated a trade surplus of $4.91 billion during the January-December period, even as imports surged 25.47 percent to reach $22.88 billion. Unit export value rose 9.38 percent to $1,436 per ton, indicating higher-value products being sold to international markets.

Fresh fruits and vegetables led all product categories with $3.87 billion in exports, followed by confectionery products at $3.59 billion and hard-shelled fruits at $2.27 billion.

December shows strong export growth

Export performance strengthened toward year-end, with December 2025 shipments climbing 13.63 percent compared to December 2024 to reach $3.01 billion. Imports during the same month jumped 54.27 percent to $2.37 billion.

The data, compiled by the Turkish Food and Beverage Industry Association Federation (TGDF) using figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute, highlights both opportunities and challenges facing the sector as import costs accelerate faster than export revenues.

Refined sunflower oil tops individual product exports

Refined sunflower oil emerged as the single largest export product, surpassing $1 billion in sales. Hazelnut kernels followed closely at $1 billion, with mandarins ranking third at $891.7 million.

On the import side, soybeans dominated at $1.77 billion, followed by crude sunflower oil at $1.25 billion and cattle imports at $1.19 billion. Animal feed led all import categories at $5.71 billion, with vegetable oils at $3.22 billion and confectionery products at $2.31 billion rounding out the top three.

Iraq remains top export destination despite regional shifts

Iraq maintained its position as the sector's largest export market, absorbing $3.4 billion worth of Turkish agricultural and food products, a 0.76 percent increase year-over-year. Germany ranked second at $2 billion, though exports to the European nation declined 8.38 percent. Russia held third place at $1.8 billion, with shipments rising 2.13 percent.

Russia also served as the primary import source at $3.3 billion, followed by Brazil at $2.2 billion and Ukraine at $1.9 billion.
