Türkiye's low-cost carrier AJet, a subsidiary of the national airline Turkish Airlines, will launch regular flights to Damascus beginning on June 16, Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on Wednesday.

Flights from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Damascus International Airport are scheduled to start on June 16, followed by services from Ankara’s Esenboga Airport on June 17.

Istanbul will serve four weekly flights to Damascus

According to Uraloglu, flights from Istanbul will run 4 days a week—Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays—while Ankara flights will operate 3 days weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

The minister also noted that starting in July, flights from Istanbul to Damascus are planned to increase to daily service.

Syrian Airlines to launch Istanbul flights

Syrian Airlines also announced earlier this week that it will begin operating flights to Türkiye from June 10, offering services to Istanbul.

Turkish Airlines, the country’s flag carrier, resumed its Istanbul-Damascus flights in January after a suspension that began in 2012 due to the Syrian civil war. The flights resumed approximately six weeks after the removal of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
