Türkiye's BIST 100 index surpasses 13,000 points for first time in history

Türkiye's BIST 100 stock index closed above 13,000 points for the first time in its history on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the country's equity market as it gained 1.42% to finish at 13,177.32 points.

The benchmark index, operated by Borsa Istanbul, added 184.61 points from Friday's close after opening the week at 12,929.33 points. The index represents the performance of Türkiye's 100 most actively traded companies on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Trading volume reached 192.4 billion Turkish liras ($4.43 billion), with the index's total market capitalization standing at approximately 13.02 trillion liras ($301.3 billion) at close.

The session saw broad-based gains, with 74 stocks on the index advancing while 23 declined compared to the previous trading day's close. The index touched an intraday high of 13,182.05 points during the session, while its lowest point reached 12,886.22.

Currency and commodity markets show mixed movement

In concurrent trading, the US dollar exchanged at 43.3705 Turkish liras, while the euro traded at 51.5420 liras and the British pound at 59.4375 liras as of 6:20 pm local time.

Gold prices stood at $5,089.95 per ounce, while Brent crude oil, the international benchmark for petroleum prices, sold for $64.95 per barrel.

The BIST 100 index serves as the primary indicator of Türkiye's stock market performance and includes companies across various sectors including banking, energy, telecommunications, and manufacturing.
