Türkiye's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fleet reached 88,138 units by the end of September, marking an 11.86% annual increase, while the number of drone pilots rose 4.19% to 1.63 million, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced on Sunday.

The minister made a written statement regarding the number of drones and licensed drone pilots in Türkiye.

Registration system streamlines operations

Highlighting the increase in both drone and licensed pilot numbers due to training and programs conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in recent years, Uraloglu provided the following assessment: "As of the end of September, the number of drones reached 88,138 with an 11.86% increase compared to the same period in 2024."

"The number of drone pilots also rose 4.19% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 million 629 thousand 631," Uraloglu said.

"The Directorate General of Civil Aviation established a special registration system for drones within the scope of the 'Drone Systems Instruction,' thus providing great convenience in permits, flights, and registrations of these vehicles," he noted.

Uraloglu noted that approximately 9,000 new vehicles are registered in the drone registration system each year.

Growing sector applications

"The use of drones in different sectors such as agricultural spraying, photography, cinema, mapping, traffic, security, cargo delivery and health is increasing," Uraloglu concluded.
