Electricity generation from wind and solar sources in Türkiye reached a record high in June, accounting for 29.6% of the country’s total electricity production, according to the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.

Combined output from these two renewable sources rose to 8.4 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) for the month, marking the highest monthly share ever recorded.

Türkiye ranks 11th worldwide and fifth among European countries in total installed renewable energy capacity, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Total renewables surpass 52.5% in generation share

Overall, renewable energy sources accounted for 52.5% of Türkiye’s electricity production in June, reflecting the increasing role of clean energy in the country’s power mix. Out of a total of 28.38 billion kWh generated that month, 14.9 billion kWh came from renewables, while 18.4 billion kWh were produced using domestic energy sources.

By the end of June, Türkiye’s total installed electricity generation capacity had reached 119,632 megawatts (MW). Of this total, 72,826 MW—or 60.9%—was based on renewable energy technologies.

Solar generation reaches monthly peak

Hydropower remains the largest contributor among renewables, with an installed capacity of 32,291 MW, making up 27% of the national total. Solar energy follows with 22,937 MW, or 19.2%, while wind power stands at 13,465 MW, equivalent to 11.3%. Biomass and geothermal sources contributed 2,399 MW (2%) and 1,734 MW (1.4%), respectively.

In addition to the gains in capacity, solar-based electricity generation also reached an all-time monthly high in June, totaling 4.6 billion kWh, representing 16.1% of monthly electricity output.
