Türkiye’s installed solar power capacity has climbed to 25,827 megawatts as of the end of January 2026, marking a 641-fold increase from 40.2 megawatts recorded in 2014, according to official data.

The expansion reflects a steady build-out of renewable energy infrastructure over more than a decade, as the country continues efforts to strengthen supply security through domestic and clean energy sources, the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said in a statement.

Solar takes larger share in Türkiye’s energy mix

Solar energy now represents 20.9% of Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity, a sharp rise from just 0.1% in 2014.

This means roughly one-fifth of the country’s total capacity is generated from solar power.

The growth has also been reflected in electricity generation. Output from solar sources increased from 17 gigawatt-hours in 2014 to 38,069 gigawatt-hours by the end of 2025.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Türkiye is working toward a combined solar and wind installed capacity target of 120,000 megawatts by 2035.

He noted that renewable growth has been supported through Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) tenders and capacity allocations for self-consumption projects.

$80B investment pipeline through 2035

The minister added that Türkiye closed 2025 with record levels in renewable energy and expects 2026 to set a new high.

To meet its long-term targets, Türkiye plans to mobilize around $80 billion in new investments in renewable energy by 2035, he highlighted.

The investment roadmap is expected to support continued expansion in both solar and wind, reinforcing the country’s strategy to diversify energy sources and reduce external dependency.

Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity reached 123,453 MW in February 2026, with solar and wind combined accounting for 40,689 MW, according to official data.
