Türkiye’s unemployment rate rose by 0.4 percentage points, or 168,000 people, to 8.5% in August, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) reported on Tuesday.

Unemployment among men was measured at 6.8%, compared with 11.6% for women.

Among the youth population aged 15–24, the unemployment rate rose by 0.8 percentage points to 16% in August. Within this group, unemployment was 12.4% for men and 22.7% for women.

This measure reflects people who are either without work, working fewer hours than they wish, or available but not actively seeking employment.
