A significant disruption occurred on Wednesday when the X social media platform experienced a widespread outage affecting users around the world.
According to data collected by Downdetector, a service that monitors website and app outages based on user reports, tens of thousands of users were impacted.
At the peak of the disruption around 14:00 GMT, approximately 14,000 reports of issues were registered. These reports revealed that about 52% of users encountered problems connecting to the X app, while 42% experienced difficulties accessing the website. Additionally, 6% of reports were related to server connection issues.
The outage was international in scope, with no indication that the disruption was caused by localized internet restrictions or country-specific filtering measures. This suggests a technical failure within the platform's own infrastructure rather than external interference.
Following a brief period of downtime, the platform managed to resume its services, restoring access for most users.
As of now, the company has not issued any official statement regarding the cause or details of the outage.
