Turkish melodies resonate in Guatemala’s National Palace of Culture

The first concert took place at the National Palace of Culture in Guatemala City, hosted by the Embassy of Türkiye in Guatemala. The event drew representatives from government institutions, diplomatic missions, and a large number of music enthusiasts. The captivating sounds of classical Turkish makam-based music filled the historic hall, and the audience showed strong appreciation through enthusiastic applause.

The ensemble, featuring contrabassist Burak Noyan alongside Celaleddin Bicer, Orkun Cecelioglu and Halil Gurdal Inal, presented a rich repertoire that reflected the traditional elements of Turkish music. During the event, Turkish musical styles such as makam (a traditional system of melody types) and usul (rhythmic patterns) were subtly introduced to listeners, offering a glimpse into the depth of the genre.

Music meets heritage in UNESCO city of Antigua

The group later performed in Antigua, the former capital of Guatemala and a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its preserved colonial architecture.

An open-air concert held at the National Art Museum drew strong attention, with the historic surroundings enhancing the emotional impact of the performance. The audience responded warmly, highlighting the universal appeal of Türkiye’s cultural expressions.

Knowledge-sharing with young Guatemalan musicians

The cultural program extended beyond concerts. At the German Alcantara National Music Conservatory, the ensemble held a workshop with young musicians.

They provided insights into the unique structure of Turkish music, including its modes, rhythms, and traditional instruments. By leading a masterclass, the artists shared their expertise and engaged in an inspiring exchange of musical ideas.
