The 33rd International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival will bring opera and ballet productions to audiences from Sept. 12-26, organized by the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet under Türkiye's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The festival takes place in the historic Aspendos Ancient Theater in Antalya on Türkiye's southern Mediterranean coast.
The program features four works across six performances: one opera, two ballets and one staged cantata. The festival opens on Sept. 12 with Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Attila."
Antalya State Opera and Ballet Director Ozgur Aslan said the festival will once again host internationally recognized artists and conductors this year.
On Sept. 15, audiences will see a ballet adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina," choreographed by Young Soon Hue. Carl Orff's staged cantata "Carmina Burana" follows on Sept. 19 and 21, a production combining orchestra, ballet, soloists and choir.
The festival's closing performances on Sept. 25 and 26 will feature the ballet "Spartacus," staged by the Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater from Kazakhstan.
Aslan said this year's lineup includes leading Turkish opera performers whose technical and stage capabilities meet international standards. He noted that shuttle services will be provided from designated points across the city for festival attendees.
"We hosted 15,700 people at the festival last year. We hope this year's number will exceed that. Our target is around 16,500. Last year's number was a record, and we aim to break that record again," Aslan said.
Aslan invited opera and ballet enthusiasts to attend the festival's performances.
