The 14th Bosphorus Film Festival is now accepting entries, with the Bosphorus Culture Art Foundation setting Sept. 15 as the deadline for its competition sections.
Organized by the Bosphorus Culture Art Foundation, the Bosphorus Film Festival has developed over more than a decade into one of Istanbul's notable cinema events, featuring both national and international competition sections.
The festival has positioned itself as a platform bringing together works from emerging and established filmmakers, aiming to give Istanbul a place on the international cinema map alongside the city's longer-running festivals.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's General Directorate of Cinema and sponsored by Turkcell and Turkish Airlines as main sponsors, the festival will take place from Nov. 8 to 15, featuring competitions in four main categories this year: National Feature Film, International Feature Film, Short Film and National Documentary Film.
Awards will be given in a total of 18 categories at the event. The National Feature Film Competition will evaluate productions completed after Jan. 1, 2025, with the production selected as "Best Film" receiving the "Golden Dolphin" award. Prizes will also be awarded in the categories of directing, screenwriting, acting, cinematography, and editing.
In the National Documentary Film category, which has no length restriction and is open to Turkish productions, "Best National Documentary Film" and a "Special Jury Prize" will be presented.
The Short Film Competition at the Bosphorus Film Festival brings together national and international short fiction films, offering filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their work to audiences and industry professionals.
All films submitted to the competition are automatically considered for the Ahmet Ulucay Grand Prize, named in honor of the acclaimed Turkish filmmaker Ahmet Ulucay, who passed away in 2009.
In addition, one film from the national competition will receive the Young Talent Award, presented by the Istanbul Media Academy to recognize emerging filmmakers and promising new voices in Turkish cinema.
Alongside its competition programs, the festival offers a broader platform for discovering notable works from Turkish and international cinema. The program also includes masterclasses, panel discussions, and other industry-focused events, providing opportunities for filmmakers, students, and audiences to engage with established figures from the film world.
