One of Broadway's most internationally recognized musicals, "Wicked," is set to take the stage in Türkiye in 2027, with performances scheduled in Istanbul from Jan. 23 to Feb. 7 and in the capital, Ankara, from March 12 to 20.
Brought to Türkiye by Broadway Entertainment Group and Wovo Entertainment, the international production will be staged at the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM) Opera Hall in Istanbul and ATO Congresium in Ankara.
Adapted from Gregory Maguire's novel, "Wicked" explores the events leading up to Dorothy's arrival in Oz through the lives of two young women with contrasting personalities.
The musical centers on themes of female friendship, identity and self-discovery, bringing together an international cast and production team of more than 100 performers, technicians and orchestra members.
The production will feature more than 350 costumes and some of the musical's best-known songs, including "Defying Gravity," "Popular" and "For Good."
Across its various productions, "Wicked" has drawn more than 65 million theatergoers in over 130 cities across 16 countries.
Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz welcomed the musical's arrival in Türkiye, saying he was pleased that the production continued to connect with audiences worldwide.
He added that the upcoming performances would give Turkish audiences the opportunity to experience the show's music, emotion and stage spectacle live.
Broadway Entertainment Group CEO Liz Koops also described bringing the production to audiences in Istanbul and Ankara as a great honor.
The musical's original Broadway cast recording won a Grammy Award, while its film adaptation, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, grossed more than $750 million worldwide.
