The Türkiye Culture Route Festival has brought a noticeable rise in tourism activity across Cappadocia, pushing up hotel demand, restaurant traffic and participation in local tours as concerts, exhibitions and a major hot air balloon event draw visitors to the region.
The Nevsehir leg of the festival, organized by Türkiye's Culture and Tourism Ministry from Aug. 1-9, features concerts, exhibitions, talks, workshops, food venues and activities for children, attracting both domestic and international visitors.
Teyfik Olmez, head of the Cappadocia Hoteliers and Tourism Operators Association (KAPTID), said accommodation businesses had recorded a significant increase in walk-in guests, visitors arriving without a prior reservation, as well as last-minute bookings, particularly during the opening weekend.
According to Olmez, the festival has not only brought more people into Cappadocia during the tourism season but has also encouraged some visitors who arrived for concerts to stay overnight rather than return home the same day.
He said the increased traffic had supported hotels, restaurants and other local businesses, while the variety of events aimed at different age groups helped spread visitor activity throughout the day.
Accommodation operator Mustafa Ozturk also reported stronger demand after the festival began, saying his hotel reached around 70% occupancy as visitors combined festival events with sightseeing across destinations including Avanos, Urgup and Goreme.
Travel agency operator Mehmet Ucman said visitors arriving from different parts of Türkiye were also joining regional tours outside festival hours, further adding to tourism activity.
A major part of the Cappadocia program is the International Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon Festival, which has brought together specially shaped balloons from Türkiye as well as the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Slovakia, Austria and Poland.
The balloon events attracted thousands of tourists, reinforcing Cappadocia's existing profile as a major destination for hot air balloon tourism.
Olmez said the festival was also helping promote Cappadocia in the domestic market and noted that international balloon companies had shown interest in joining the event.
Türkiye Culture Route Festivals are being held in 26 cities this year. Following Nevsehir, the program is scheduled to continue in Malatya, Erzurum, Ordu, Canakkale, Kayseri, Kahramanmaras, Ankara, Istanbul, Gaziantep, Diyarbakir, Mardin, Izmir, Antalya and Adana.
