French contemporary circus group Entre Nous brought together acrobatics, dance, theater and live music in an open-air performance in Izmir, drawing a large crowd to Gundogdu Square.
The event was organized through a collaboration between Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Izmir French Cultural Center, with the four-member group staging a performance centered on human encounters and the connections formed between people.
Entre Nous, which works in the field of contemporary circus, combined several performing arts disciplines during the show as spectators gathered around the performers in the central Izmir square.
Mattias Plaul, the circus founder and a member of the performing team, told Anadolu Agency that the group works with its own special technique within contemporary circus.
Plaul said the visit marked the group's first time in Türkiye as a team and added that performances were also planned in Ankara and Istanbul.
Reflecting on the audience response in Izmir, Plaul said spectators appeared somewhat hesitant at first but quickly warmed up to the show.
"The audience was not an audience that watches circus. They were a little shy at first, but there was definitely not an audience familiar with following circus performances. I saw that they had a lot of fun," he said.
Izmir French Cultural Center Director Stanislas Pierret said the event had attracted people from different age groups and brought together circus, acrobatics and music.
He described the performance as part of a format that has been carried out for 10 years and said he hoped the show would become successful enough to be staged more widely across Türkiye.
