Grammy-winning Pakistani-American singer, composer and producer Arooj Aftab performed at the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM) Theatre Hall on Friday as part of the 33rd Istanbul Jazz Festival.
Renowned for blending jazz, minimalism, South Asian musical traditions and avant-garde pop, Aftab presented a repertoire featuring works from across her career.
Addressing the audience at the beginning of the concert, Aftab said she was delighted to be in Istanbul, describing the city as one of her favorites.
"Thank you for turning this evening into a beautiful shared moment," she said.
Aftab was accompanied by guitarist Will Graefe, bassist Zwelakhe-Duma Bell Le Pere and drummer Engin Gunaydın.
The concert featured selections from Vulture Prince, the album that marked a breakthrough in her international career, including the Grammy Award-winning song "Mohabbat," as well as songs from her latest album, Night Reign.
Described by Uncut magazine as "the coolest rock star in the world right now," Aftab has performed at major international music festivals, including Primavera Sound, Glastonbury Festival and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
