English rock musician Robert Plant performed at the 33rd Istanbul Jazz Festival with his band Saving Grace and vocalist Suzi Dian, taking the stage at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theater in Istanbul.
The concert was held as part of the festival organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, known as IKSV, one of Türkiye’s major cultural institutions. Plant and his band came out to applause, presenting a repertoire shaped by folk, blues and country influences.
The performance brought together songs from different periods of Plant’s career, with the pieces reworked through original arrangements. During the concert, Plant performed “Down to the Sea,” “Higher Rock,” “Four Sticks,” “Calling to You,” and “Ramble On,” while members of Saving Grace also stood out with solo performances.
The set also included gospel and folk-rooted interpretations. Plant performed Brother Claude Ely’s gospel classic “There Ain’t No Grave (Gonna Hold My Body Down),” while Suzi Dian sang Gillian Welch’s “Orphan Girl.”
Between songs, Plant made the audience laugh with his jokes and said he was pleased to be in Istanbul. At the end of the concert, the musicians returned for an encore, a final additional performance requested by the audience, and played “The Rain Song” before greeting the crowd and closing the night.
Born in England in 1948, Robert Plant rose to global fame as the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, a band formed in 1968. Over his career, he has released albums across rock, blues, folk and Americana, and in recent years has continued to perform acoustic-oriented concerts with Saving Grace.
