A hall at Florence's Uffizi Gallery housing seven 17th-century paintings, including Caravaggio's "Bacchus," was temporarily closed after heavy rain caused water to leak through a skylight, Italian media reported Thursday.
The Uffizi Gallery said checks found no damage to any of the artworks, while the affected hall is expected to reopen early Friday.
More than 45 millimeters, or around 1.8 inches, of rain fell within an hour during a thunderstorm in northern Italy, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
At the Uffizi, one of Florence's major art museums, water came in beneath a skylight in the room where seven 17th-century paintings are displayed.
The museum said the leak caused water to splash onto the exterior glass of the protective case surrounding Caravaggio's "Bacchus."
Following inspections, the Uffizi Gallery said none of the paintings had been damaged.
The room was closed as a precaution following the leak and is scheduled to reopen early Friday.
