Hollywood stars Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo have joined as executive producers of "All That’s Left of You," Jordan’s official submission to the Academy Awards. The film tells the story of a Palestinian family across generations, beginning with the 1948 Nakba.
The Royal Film Commission of Jordan announced in August that the film had been chosen to represent the kingdom in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
A six-member jury voted to choose the film that will represent Jordan in this category.
The film, selected in accordance with the official criteria, will compete at the Academy Awards ceremony scheduled for March 15, 2026.
The film will begin a qualifying run in Los Angeles on Nov. 28, expand to select cities on Jan. 9, and roll out nationwide in the weeks that follow.
The film is written and directed by Cherien Dabis, marking her third feature following Amreeka and May in the Summer.
Dabis, born in the United States to a Palestinian father and a Jordanian mother, contributed as a director and producer to several prominent international series, including Ramy, Mo, Ozark, and Only Murders in the Building.
“I’m beyond thrilled to have two people I deeply admire, Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo, join us in amplifying the urgency and importance of this film,” Dabis said in a statement.
She said that “to understand what’s happening in Gaza today, we must first understand the history of how we arrived here.”
Bardem calls the film “beautiful, intelligent, and deeply moving.”
“As an audience, we journey through the memories of one family across three generations, witnessing their unbreakable bond and unwavering resilience. I am proud and honored to join her in bringing this film to audiences everywhere at this most urgent moment,” he added.
Ruffalo and Bardem have publicly expressed strong support for Gaza amid the escalating conflict.
They joined over 1,300 filmmakers—including prominent Hollywood figures—in pledging not to work with Israeli film institutions complicit in violations against Palestinians.
Ruffalo, in another video, called on global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and European governments, to take immediate and concrete steps to halt what he described as Israel’s campaign of mass killing and starvation in Gaza, labeling the situation a man-made disaster and a crime against humanity.
On his turn, Bardem has used this year’s Emmy Awards to speak out against Israel’s war in Gaza, either through fashion on the red carpet or fiery acceptance speeches.
The film follows a Palestinian teenager caught in the midst of protests in the West Bank, while his mother recounts the family’s story across decades, starting from the 1948 Nakba.
The story reflects the sacrifices, hopes, and ongoing resistance that continue to this day.
The film was entirely shot in Jordan, spanning six weeks of production across the capital, Amman, and the Balqa governorate.
It received a grant from the Royal Film Commission’s financial incentives program, which supports film production.
"All That’s Left of You" was nominated following its participation this year in the Sundance Film Festival, after which it continued to win several awards at international festivals, including:
