A jubilee exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the TURKSOY Photographers' Meeting has opened in Budapest, Hungary, showcasing images of the country's historical, cultural and natural landmarks.

The International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) organized the exhibition in cooperation with the Lakitelek Foundation, alongside an 11-day photography program held from Aug. 12 to Aug. 22. Thirteen photographers from various countries and regions of the Turkic world took part, according to a statement from TURKSOY.

The resulting images are on display at the Budapest Art Bridge (BAB) Gallery, where they are open to the public.

Fieldwork across Hungary's heritage sites

During the program, the photographers carried out fieldwork across several locations in Hungary, including Budapest, the Benedictine Archabbey town of Pannonhalma, Kalocsa, the Hortobagy region, and the village of Holloko, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Their work documented the country's historical architecture, traditional crafts and natural environment.

The photographers also captured scenes from the Great Hun-Turkic Kurultai, an event held in the town of Bugac that featured horseback displays, traditional costumes, ceremonies and other cultural activities.

In Hortobagy, they photographed the traditional lifestyle of local shepherds on the steppe, as well as Przewalski horses living at the Pentezug Wild Horse Reserve.

In Kalocsa, the photographers turned their lenses on the town's traditional ceramics, folk costumes and decorative wall painting, art forms long associated with the region.

A 20-year visual archive

TURKSOY has run the Photographers' Meeting for two decades, bringing together photographic artists from different countries and regions each year.

The program aims to build a visual archive documenting the cities, people, traditions, and cultural heritage connected to the Turkic world, using each year's host country as its subject.
