The Samsun State Opera and Ballet (SAMDOB) staged the renowned opera “Cavalleria Rusticana” by Italian composer Pietro Mascagni, bringing the classic work to audiences in Samsun.
The premiere took place at the Ataturk Cultural Center Aydın Gun Stage and was performed to a sold-out audience.
Set in a Sicilian village, the one-act opera tells a tragic story of forbidden love and its devastating consequences.
First premiered in 1890, Cavalleria Rusticana is considered one of the most significant works of the verismo movement in Italian opera, known for its focus on realism and emotional intensity.
The production was directed by Ayse Dagistanli Parlar, with the soloists accompanied by the SAMDOB Orchestra, conducted by Patrick David Murray and the SAMDOB Choir under the direction of Maria Chekriekchieva.
Dilara Tanriverdi Dogan served as concertmaster, while the set, costume, and lighting designs were created by Cagda Citkaya, Tulay Simsek and Oguz Murat Yilmaz.
Following its successful premiere, Cavalleria Rusticana will be staged again on Feb. 2 and Feb. 16.
