Director Martin Scorsese has stepped in front of the camera for a branded miniseries directed by his daughter, Francesca Scorsese, for Italian coffee company Lavazza. Titled "Family Blend," the five-episode project also features appearances from actors Jason Biggs and Adrien Brody.
Francesca filmed across locations connected to her father's life and career, including Manhattan's Little Italy and the Martin Scorsese NYU Virtual Production Center in Brooklyn—a facility launched in 2024 by New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. The narrative centers on the relationship between the two filmmakers, with coffee serving as a recurring element.
Lavazza Group Chief Marketing Officer Carlo Colpo described the project as part of the brand's broader communication strategy, noting that the collaboration combines cinematic storytelling with digital content formats.
The project is credited to Romilda De Luca of RDL Worldwide/Publicis Group and Lisa Frechette of Sikelia Productions. Propagate Content produced the episodes, with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Drew Buckley serving as producers. Maruri Group contributed to the creative development, with support from Joey Payne.
The first episode, "But First … Coffee," was released this week and filmed at the NYU Virtual Production Center. New episodes are scheduled to release monthly through November across social media channels belonging to Lavazza and the participating talent.
The second episode, "Elizabeth Street," set for release in August, revisits the New York street where Martin Scorsese grew up. "Back to Tisch," releasing in September, follows the father and daughter returning to their alma mater, New York University, referencing their respective times there since the 1960s.
In October, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" features Francesca touring Di Palo's Fine Foods in Little Italy while waiting for her father. The finale, "But Last … Coffee," is scheduled for November and is set in a New York cafe, where Francesca and Jason Biggs encourage Martin Scorsese to try coffee preparations outside his usual routine.
Francesca Scorsese has previously directed the short films "Crimson Ties" and "Fish Out of Water," along with an episode of the series "Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints."
