Türkiye and the United States discussed plans to boost two-way tourism, protect cultural heritage and step up joint efforts against cultural artifact trafficking during a meeting in Ankara between Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and U.S. Ambassador Tom Barrack.
The talks, held at the Culture and Tourism Ministry, focused on cooperation in culture and tourism within the framework of the two countries' long-standing relations.
Ersoy and Barrack explored ways to increase travel between Türkiye and the U.S. while strengthening dialogue and cultural connections between the two countries.
They also went over ongoing work to protect historical heritage and tackle cultural property trafficking, which refers to the illegal removal, movement or trade of objects with historical and cultural significance.
Following the meeting, Ersoy said the two sides had comprehensively reviewed bilateral cooperation and considered new opportunities that could further bring the countries together.
Barrack emphasized Türkiye's history, cultural diversity, hospitality and geography as essential strengths for its tourism industry.
He also praised Ersoy's efforts to maintain and build up Türkiye's position in the international tourism market.
"Minister Ersoy’s bold leadership in safeguarding and advancing Türkiye’s position in this competitive international landscape is truly admirable," Barrack said.
As the U.S. and Türkiye approach the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, Barrack described cooperation on preserving Türkiye's historical heritage and moving forward with joint initiatives as an example of successful international cooperation.
