A new bilingual podcast exploring the archaeological landscape of Oylum Mound (Hoyuk) in Kilis and the region’s traditional crafts was introduced at the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) in Paris.

The project, titled “The Hill of Renewal” (Yenilenme Tepesi), aims to bring Türkiye’s archaeological heritage to French-speaking audiences by blending academic research with storytelling.

The launch took place at YEE Paris with the participation of YEE Deputy President Bilgin Ozmen, YEE Department Head for Turkish Culture and Arts Omur Karsli, YEE Paris Director Dudu Keles, Louvre curator Vincent Blanchard, and several experts involved in the production.

The event brought together Turkish and French contributors who have been working collectively on the series.

A bilingual format designed for wider outreach

The podcast has been produced in both Turkish and French to make Türkiye’s archaeological and cultural heritage more accessible to the Francophone public.

In her remarks, Keles said the institute carries out work across all cultural fields and expressed gratitude to guests who joined the event.

Producers describe a collaborative and thematic structure

Anne Kropotkine, Production Director at the Micro-Sillons Association, explained that the podcast was built by a mixed team of French and Turkish professionals.

She noted that each episode approaches a different theme tied to the heritage of Kilis and the wider region. The documentary series, consisting of twenty episodes, explores the archaeological site of Oylum Hoyuk, which overlooks the Kilis plain in southern Türkiye.

Sound designers reflect on field experiences

Sound designer Charlotte Roux said she was pleased to discover the ongoing archaeological research at Oylum Hoyuk while recording on site.

Audio specialist Antoine Auger described the site as exceptional because of its location and scale.

He added that the team did not want to produce a podcast solely about an archaeological field but rather about the bond it forms with Kilis, aiming to show how the site inspires local producers.

Representatives of the podcast’s stakeholders, including brand manager Sabriye Tanem Yersel and educator Gonkur Gundogan, also attended the launch and supported the presentation of the project.
