A restored historic building in Istanbul is set to be brought back into public life as a new culture and arts venue, with Karakoy Palace scheduled to reopen on April 25 following a comprehensive restoration led by the Culture and Civilization Foundation (KUME).
Located in Istanbul’s Beyoglu district, an area known for its concentration of galleries and independent creative spaces, the building is expected to serve as a platform where artists and audiences can come together, interact and produce new work.
According to a statement from the foundation, the structure had been used for various purposes over many years before undergoing a restoration process that aimed to repurpose it for the cultural sector. Through this process, the building has now been reintroduced as a dedicated arts space, aligning with the surrounding creative ecosystem of Karakoy.
The reopening event will take place with the participation of KUME’s Board of Trustees Chairman Selcuk Bayraktar and Chairman Abdullah Eren, marking the building’s official return to Istanbul’s cultural landscape.
The opening program will also introduce two key projects to the public. One of them is the ArtiKUME 2025 selection, described as the first output of the ArtiKUME Art Support Program. The initiative brings together works by 25 artists and students from different disciplines, aiming to bridge contemporary and traditional art practices.
Launched in March 2025, the program is designed to reinterpret cultural heritage through current artistic production, creating a space where different forms of expression can come together and evolve.
Alongside this selection, the ODAK exhibition will also be presented as part of the program. The project focuses on collecting and organizing cultural and artistic activity data from across Türkiye, aiming to turn scattered information into a structured and meaningful whole.
By doing so, ODAK seeks to make visible the transformation of cultural data from a fragmented state into a more coherent system. As part of this effort, visitors will also be introduced to the printed outcome of the project, the ODAK 2025 book.
Following the official launch on April 25, the exhibition program at Karakoy Palace will open to visitors on April 26, marking the beginning of the building’s new role as a space for artistic production, exhibition and exchange in Istanbul.
