The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Amman sent a letter to the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding a complaint filed by the Fairmont Hotel against an Iraqi counselor, following an incident that occurred during her departure from the hotel.
According to the document, the incident began when the hotel’s alarm system was triggered by two bags belonging to the counselor, Zainab Okla Abd.
The incident led to a verbal altercation and chaos inside the hotel, prompting the embassy to intervene and resolve the situation.
The embassy noted that several items were reported missing from the room, including six towels, two bath towels, two cups, a watch, a remote control and other belongings.
The complaint added that the hotel was “forced to allow her to leave to avoid embarrassing the embassy.”
According to the document, the embassy affirmed that the incident “undermines the reputation of the embassy and its staff.”
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as other official bodies, has not yet issued any formal statement regarding the complaint filed against Counselor Zainab Okla Abd.
The official had previously sparked controversy following a televised interview.
During the appearance, she introduced herself as the Director of Conferences and Bilateral Relations at the Iraqi Consulate in the Republic of Istanbul.
The video drew public criticism, as many questioned the accuracy of the title and noted her reference to Istanbul as a “Republic,” a phrasing that was widely regarded as incorrect and inappropriate in a diplomatic context.
