A Medicinal and Aromatic Oils Distillation Workshop established in Algeria with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) was officially inaugurated with a ceremony.
TIKA supported the project to produce medicinal and aromatic oils within the Blida Provincial Chamber of Crafts, operating under Algeria’s Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, in Blida province, south of the capital, Algiers.
The workshop, established with TIKA’s support, opened with the participation of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Algeria, Muhammet Mucahit Kucukyilmaz.
Many Algerian citizens also attended the opening ceremony, where Kucukyilmaz delivered a speech.
Highlighting deep-rooted historical brotherhood ties between the Turkish and Algerian peoples, Kucukyilmaz said Algeria has been undergoing rapid development in recent years.
He said Türkiye was pleased to contribute to this process, describing the project as “a symbolic step” within that framework.
He also pointed to Algeria’s “underground and above-ground riches,” including plant diversity, noting that Blida has a special flora due to its position between the Mediterranean and the Atlas Mountains.
Kucukyilmaz said the workshop offers an opportunity to transform this richness into economic value and create employment, adding that hardworking Algerian women in particular would receive training at the workshop and later establish their own workshops.
During the program, trainees demonstrated the distillation process of medicinal and aromatic oils through practical applications. After the ceremony, certificates were awarded to 17 participants who attended the first training program held at the workshop.
