The 2nd International Disaster Film Festival (UAFF), which aims to raise global awareness about disaster preparedness and resilience, has attracted film submissions from 114 countries. The festival will take place in Ankara from December 18 to 21, bringing together filmmakers, academics, and humanitarian organizations from across the world.
Organized in cooperation between ANDA Association and the International Digital Media and Information Association (DIMAK), the festival highlights the unifying power of cinema in portraying not only the destructive but also the humanly connective aspects of disasters. This year’s theme focuses on “the global dimension of climate change,” emphasizing the relationship between environmental crises and collective responsibility.
Throughout the four-day event, local and international films exploring climate change and disaster resilience will be screened. Competitions will also be held in the categories of feature films, documentaries, short films, and animations, encouraging creative storytelling around sustainability and adaptation.
Festival Director Mehmet Serhat Bicak stated that preparations were carried out with a broad vision and strong commitment. He noted that the team aims to “leave a multifaceted international cultural and social legacy that merges cinema with disaster awareness as a gift to humanity.” Bicak added that the festival aspires to become one of the most influential cultural brands advocating for a greener and more sustainable world.
The finalist films will not only be showcased in Ankara but also in events across seven cities in Türkiye and in one partner city in Poland.
