Jihyo, a member of the K-pop girl group Twice, announced Wednesday that she has left JYP Entertainment, the only agency she has known since childhood, to start her own company.
The singer shared the news in a handwritten letter posted on her Instagram account, saying she ended her contract with JYP after 21 years. She said she has established a new agency called Emithaus.
"I have established Emithaus," she wrote. "Through this new home, I hope to freely explore even the possibilities within myself that I have yet to discover."
Jihyo said she would approach her future work with greater care and responsibility as she leaves a familiar environment.
"I will approach every future choice and activity with greater care and a stronger sense of responsibility, as I step out of a familiar environment and continue my work in a new way," she wrote.
She plans to pursue a solo music career under Emithaus while continuing to work with Twice.
JYP, one of South Korea’s major K-pop agencies, had managed Jihyo since she joined as a trainee, before Twice debuted in 2015.
