Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIFO) announced an urgent update regarding the "Twentieth Century Melodies" concert on April 16, 2026.
Featured soloist Daniel Hope cannot perform because of health reasons. Management changed the musical works previously planned for the first half of the evening to accommodate this absence.
Daniel Hope will no longer join conductor Carlo Tenan for this performance.
Hope originally planned to perform Edward Elgar’s "Violin Concerto in B minor." The orchestra directs audiences to its website and mobile application for the finalized list of replacement works. The second half of the concert still features Dmitri Shostakovich’s "Symphony No. 6" and Nino Rota’s "La Passerella d’addio."
Daniel Hope holds a reputation as a vital violinist of this era. He debuted young at the invitation of Anne-Sophie Mutter. He studied under the mentorship of Yehudi Menuhin. Hope also serves as a cultural ambassador through various social projects.
He worked with Sting on the albums "If on a Winter’s Night" and "Escape to Paradise."
Additionally, his "Hope@Home" series reached millions during global lockdowns and earned him the Opus Klassik award.
The orchestra has established a clear protocol for guests who wish to return their tickets following the soloist's cancellation. All refund requests must be submitted by Wednesday, April 15.
The process varies depending on how the tickets were originally purchased:
BIFO replaced the opening pieces after the soloist withdrew.
Official digital platforms now display the revised program, and concertgoers can access the updated list of works via the website or mobile application.
Dmitri Shostakovich’s "Symphony No. 6" remains the second half's centerpiece. He finished this work in 1939, and critics identify an unconventional form and Soviet irony in this composition.
The orchestra will also play "La Passerella d’addio" by Nino Rota, which appears in the Federico Fellini film "8½." These works provide a sophisticated exploration of twentieth-century music despite the schedule changes.
The concert begins at 20:00, but attendees can arrive early for an educational session.
Aydin Buke and Sibil Arsenyan will host a pre-concert talk from 19:00 to 19:30 at the Dolmabahce Hall within the Lutfi Kirdar venue.
This discussion aims to provide context for the complex twentieth-century works featured in the main event.
Tickets remain available for this performance in the cultural capital of Türkiye, Istanbul.
