In a feat of unparalleled craftsmanship, a silk carpet so finely woven that it contains 2,500 knot pairs per square centimeter is now on display in Cappadocia. Experts describe it as the densest and most intricate silk carpet in the world, a creation so meticulous and rare that its value is considered priceless.

Carpet expert Hakan Demiratan explained that the carpet, with 50×50 knot pairs per square centimeter, exceeds all previously recorded standards. “Officially, the Guinness World Records lists a carpet with 25×25, or 675 knot pairs per square centimeter,” he noted.

“We are currently completing the process to have this carpet recognized officially.”

Demiratan added that Guinness registration involves a highly detailed verification procedure.

Carpet expert Hakan Demiratan said, ‘Preparations for the official Guinness record are underway; technically, this carpet is the world’s densest silk carpet.’ Nevsehir, Türkiye, March 3, 2026. (AA Photo)

A timeless design weaving heritage, mastery

The carpet, the result of five years of painstaking work, is crafted from genuine Bursa silk. Its centerpiece is the “Tree of Life” motif, symbolizing eternity and the cycle of life, a theme that spans cultures from Central Asia to Scandinavian mythology and Altay Shamanism.

Alongside the tree, the carpet features lifelike depictions of animals, birds, and plants, reflecting exceptional attention to detail and artistic mastery.

Demiratan emphasized that the carpet represents 150 years of traditional weaving fused with modern technical excellence, making it a cultural treasure that cannot be measured in monetary terms. Visitors can view this extraordinary piece at Carpet House in Cappadocia.
